Oversee the nonunion and union and union employees and salaried employees in the Northern Region.




  1. As directed, administer Northern salaried and nonunion and union hourly benefit and compensation policies and programs and implement controls to ensure compliance at all Northern locations. Coordinate and monitor the administration of group life, short & long-term disability, vision, health and dental insurance plans, and 401(k) plan for the North.


  1. Assist, as requested, Northern location supervisors in the preparation of job descriptions reflecting the realignment of job functions and responsibilities to ensure proper utilization of location salaried positions. In accordance with Company policy, maintain updated job descriptions and organizational charts for all positions in the North. Evaluate new and changed salaried positions to ensure proper salary grade is assigned.


  1. Administer the employment, transfer, and termination of salaried/nonunion and union hourly employees in the North in accordance with policy. Ensure compliance at all locations. Process and follow through on all documents relative to newly hired, transferred, promoted or terminated employees in the North to ensure all documents are properly prepared and processed.


  1. As directed, assist departmental and location managers in the recruitment and selection of salaried and nonunion and union hourly Northern personnel.


  1. Provide for proper retention, disposition, safekeeping and control of all nonunion and union hourly employee personnel and insurance records. Implement controls to ensure confidentiality.


  1. Annually evaluate the performance and salary of those reporting to him in accordance with company policy.


  1. Administer the Human Resources policies and procedures and implement controls to monitor compliance in the North.


  1. Ensure the Vice President, General Counsel is advised of all pertinent activity in the North.


  1. Ensure no Northern salaried and/or nonunion and union hourly employee is terminated or disciplined without proper notification to the Vice President, Human Resources.


  1. As directed, ensure drug/alcohol policy, background checks and physical exams for responsible locations are adhered to and proper paperwork is in place.


  1. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Vice President, Human Resources.




  1. Minimum Bachelor's degree is required.


  1. Minimum 5 years work experience in Human Resources.


  1. Microsoft Office must be able to use as required by the job.

  • In-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations.

  • Decisions contribute to business and operational decisions that affect the yards


  • Problems are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation. Problems are solved using knowledge and skills and general practices within the scope of Company guidelines.


  • Results are defined. Sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with some guidelines. Vice President provides broad guidance and overall direction.




Inside/Outside: Job requires significant travel to all assigned yards.
